I cannot describe my happiness at having someone else know characters from these movies. You are officially my hero of the day, although neither of your guesses is correct. (My favorite character from McLintock is as obscure as Ching, though. That was a very good guess.)

I noticed all the young ones up there had no guesses. I wouldn't attribute my knowledge of all things John Wayne to me, though. That's Nolan. You know my sons? Ethan and Aaron? Character names for the brothers in The Searchers. When did I find this out? After the youngest was about two. Nolan even had a picture of John Wayne hanging on the wall in his bedroom when I moved in. That and the decoupage of the bullfighter were the first things to go. But Maureen O'Hara? She rocks! I think that it was one of the reasons Nolan married me, that I reminded him of her. =P

James is a big John Wayne fan, too, although these two movies were favorites of mine long before I met him. Maureen O'Hara is fabulous. They worked very well together.
