Ironside

I finished Ironside today. Deaths. Declarations. Quests. Curses. Duels. Lots of little turns and twists. Valiant crossovers. And, of course, Roiben - the hottest of all fairies. Yeah, I liked it. Enough that I'm sad to think that this is the last book Holly Black will write about my favorite fey folks.

What is Roiben, anyway? Kaye is a pixie, but did they ever specify what Roiben is? Maybe an elf. He seems elf-like. *shrugs* Whatever, he's fabulous.

I haven't read it yet! Oh noes! I must go run out and get it! MUST!

Relatedly, how did you like Rebel Angels? And City of Bones? These are things we need to discuss, woman!

Roiben is fey, this si about all I can remember. I think faerie but I could be wrong. I'ma read the other two and then go get Ironside so if I come across an accurate description I'll let you know.

I enjoyed Rebel Angels very much, and am now anxiously awaiting the third book. What do you think will happen with Kartik and Gemma? There's so much chemistry between them, but in that time period not a lot of hope for a happy, romantic outcome. Of course, there may still be hope for Simon, should Kartik not work out. It's a shame about Pippa, though. I worry that Felicity might turn, too.

I bought City of Bones the same day I bought Ironside, but I've not read it yet. I'm debating if that's next or if I need a break from the supernatural. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is on my nightstand, too, waiting for my attention.

See, I thought faerie (or fairy) was similar to fey - an overall discription for the immortal folks with magic. I didn't think it was a specific classification like pixie, hob, or troll. I'll have to poke around HB's website and see if I can find out more.

I don't know about these. That good, huh? Why is it the last? What is it with these authors snagging us in and then dropping a nasty turd on us about no more? *grrr* These sound interesting, though.

I enjoyed them. They are young adult books, urban fairy tales. The first is Tithe, which revolves around a girl named Kaye, Corny, and Roiben (a fairy knight serving the Unseelie Court) and their parts in the 'Tithe', a ceremony that takes place every seven years to keep the peace between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.

Next is Valiant, which is not a sequel, but takes place around the same timeframe as Tithe in a nearby location. There's a little crossover, but not much. Anyway, Valiant is about Val, a girl who runs away from home and ends up tangled in a nasty situation involving a troll named Ravus, who has been banished from the Seelie Court.

Ironside is the most recent, and is a sequel to Tithe, with significant participation from one of the characters from Valiant.

They are not innocent books, but they are interesting. Roiben and Ravus are very dangerous, flawed individuals that you can't help loving.

This is the last one because Holly Black has always said she only planned to write three books in this setting. *sigh* More's the pity.
