My PC started acting up last night, it won't start up propoerly. It goes to this page that tells me it didn't start up properly (duh) and gives me different options to try to get it started, none of which work. James was trying to work on it this morning, but he's not emailed me with a smug 'I fixed it', so I assume it is still down. Becky asked me if I could cover one of her craft shows, though, so maybe I'll ask for Manny to look at the computer in lieu of payment for the craft show. Until it's fixed, I'm stuck with my laptop that has its own issues, and is none too reliable.
Meredith's Story:
On Saturday, Meredith went out with Steele. They met up with Anastasia and her boyfriend at the movies, and Meredith called me to see if she could spend the night at Anastasia's place. Sure, no problem. What she didn't tell me was that Anastasia was going to dinner with her boyfriend and Steele was just going to drop Mer off later that night. When she was dropped off at 11:45, Anastasia told her that she was in trouble and Meredith couldn't come in. Neither of the two girls apparently thought to have Meredith call home for a ride. Meredith decided to sleep on Anastasia's back porch and get a ride home from her in the morning. Then she got cold. So, Meredith walked to a gas station (2 miles, one of which is along a busy highway, by herself, in the middle of the night) and had the attendant help her find a police officer to drive her home. She showed at up the door at 4:30 a.m.
There a several holes in this story, although Meredith is sticking to it. First, I find it ridiculous that Anastasia would just leave Meredith standing outside at night with no way to get the ten miles home. Second, Anastasia lives in one town and we live in another. Each town has its own police force. An officer would have to leave his juridiction to drive Meredith home, which he could not do if he were on duty. Third, our county has a curfew for minors. They are not allowed to be out between midnight and 4 a.m. unless they are going to or from work or school activities. Any police officer would probably have taken her to the station and called us to come get her. Fourth, no police officer was present when we let Meredith in. I find it hard to believe that they a) wouldn't walk her to the door or b) at the very least, wait to make sure she got in the house.
So, basically, I have NO IDEA what Meredith was doing in the early hours of Sunday morning. She doesn't understand why she is grounded. She's lucky I'm still letting her go to the WMZQfest this weekend and Hawaii in two weeks. I love my daughter, but sometimes I just want to kick her. Thank God nothing happened to her.
Baby Gavin:
I mentioned a couple weeks ago that Becky's brother and his wife had a new baby boy, Gavin. Gavin has been diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome. If you are unfamiliar with it, Prader-Willi is a condition where a baby's muscle tone is very weak, meaning that it generally takes about twice as long for Prader-Willi babies to sit up, crawl, walk, etc... Because of that, they tend to be diagnosed with 'failure to thrive', too. They always have some cognitive impairment, though the degree of severity varies, and sometimes they do not fully develop their genitals. Around the time they catch up with motor development, they lose the ability to know they are full. They feel hungry all the time and are unable to control the urge to eat. There is nothing that can be done to fix this problem. Patrick and Jen will probably have to padlock their cupboards in order to keep Gavin from literally eating himself to death. The problem is compounded by the fact that their muscle tissue is underdeveloped, meaning they need less food to survive than an average person would.
Please pray for Patrick and Jen and their son. They have a long road ahead.
That's all for now.
