...but not really, 'cause there's no time for that nonsense.

I have shopped for Christmas dinner! *listens for applause* *hears nothing*

I am about to take a mountain of trash out to the dumpster, then I need to go finish my shopping. Cutting it close? Me? Never. Have I wrapped a single gift? No. Do I have any idea when I'll have time to do that? No again. All I know is that I work tomorrow and I have to be at my mom's with the dinner fixin's bright and early Thursday.

Oh, and I also have to find time to load some pictures on the digital photo frames I got my mom and Kenny. Well, Kenny's is a magnet, actually, but it still requires photos.

And the earrings Mer got her aunt either didn't make it into the bag when I checked out or they fell out somewhere along the way. Could I go get a replacement pair? At the mall. The mall I didn't intend to visit again for a long, long, LONG time. I make no promises. That may be an after-Christmas Christmas gift.

I have to stop by the rental office in the morning before I head to work to pick up the packages that were delivered for me while I was at work today.

Can't I just work on my scenes? Pretty please? Dude, I love Christmas usually. This year is stressing me out, though.

Crap, I need to remember to pay the car insurance. And the car payment, come to think of it. Bah humbug.

Meme below )

I finally started Breaking Dawn yesterday. I'm about halfway through. I like it so far, although it's not what I expected. Believability is stretched pretty thin, but the story's okay and Jacob's being made out as less of an ass, so I'm good.

I was supposed to visit my mom today to go over some financial stuff, but she and Kenny have been sick so I'm staying away. Violent upchucking is not on my 'to-do' list.

My other brother, Chris, should be in town towards the end of the week. He spends most of his time up here running around with friends, but I'm sure I'll see him before he leaves.

Mer went to New York with her aunt and soon-to-be uncle this weekend. This is at least her second trip up there. This kid gets to go all sorts of places I haven't been. I need to travel more.

It seriously looks like a bomb exploded bags and wrapping paper all over my room. I still have a few things to wrap, but nothing that can't wait until morning. Mer's at her dad's tonight, so there's no big hurry. I'm considering turning in early (for me), but that requires clearing all the crap off my bed and I'm not up to it at the moment.

Anyway, enough of my blathering. I hope you all have a very merry Christmas!

Happy birthday, Urs! I will make you a pretty post when I get home, but I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten about you. I hope you're feeling better and mending well. *snuggles*

(On a non-birthday related note, I got some of my Christmas pressies mailed and got stamps for my international cards. The next shipment of pressies will probably not be until Monday, so everything will be late, but they'll get there eventually. Additionally, I've not been good about acknowledging the mail I've received. I will remedy that tonight or this weekend. Please don't think I'm unappreciative, I love my friends and every card makes me giddy. I'm just very disorganized this year.)
I had a GYN appointment this morning. Fabulous way to start your day, let me tell you. Now I'm about to actually go to work. Any minute now I'll be heading out the door. Really.

Bah. I'm tired. Wish I could curl up in bed for a little while before heading in, but I really shouldn't.

I've not yet mailed the gifts that I need to mail. Not that there are a lot of them, since I'm low on funds this year. Anyway, they'll probably be late. Ditto for my out-of-country cards. I haven't made it to the PO to get appropriate stamps, so they've not gone out yet either. I'm working on it.

Need to finish my ficmas story and get it betaed for Saturday.

Also need to finish Christmas shopping. I've got Mer mostly done, but there are a few others (Mom, Sher, Pike, Maiken, etc...) for whom I still have to buy gifts.

Need to help Mer with the gifts she's making. Yes, making. We'll see if we can get finished by Sunday.

Aargh. Gotta run. Wish I could nap. Starbucks is inevitable and justified.

*love to Urs*

So tonight I've happened across a Christmas special that I've never seen before - 'The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus'. It's the same type of animation as all the old classics - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Year Without Santa Claus, Rudolph's Shiny New Year - you know the ones I mean, but it was made about 15-20 years after the good ones. Anyway, this one is a full hour long and whoever wrote it was totally on crack. I'm serious. That is the only explanation. The story is about 'Claus', who lives in the Laughing Valley of HoHaHo, where it is always winter. There are samurais, dragons, weird monsters, fairies, a wizard-type guy with an huge antler hat, what appears to be a lioness, and a sidekick who looks like the product of an elf bred to one of the evil, bird-like characters from The Dark Crystal.

If I was stoned (or under the age of six), this show would scare the ever-loving shit out of me. As it is, I just find it freakin' hilarious. I actually woke Meredith up because I was laughing so hard. I can only imagine that it's on at 10:00 p.m. because the folks at ABCFamily figure any children still up at 10:00 on a school night are already fucked up and a little bit of Christmas crack won't harm them any more than they already have been.

ETA: OH MY GOSH! HBP Movie!Draco is so freaking hot! I don't care that he barely more than half my age. They finally did something right with his hair! No more floppy mop, no more ridiculous skater cut, no more slicked back ickiness. Just nice, tidy, short hair. If I can't get a Lucius' elegant ponytail, this is the next best thing. Thank you for sharing, Pud!

I've gotten Christmas cards! Yay! Thank you [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13, [livejournal.com profile] lyndsiefenele, and [livejournal.com profile] 60sfreak!

I'm aiming to send out my international cards this weekend.

I'm WAY behind on my Christmas shopping, but my child support came in today, so I can start getting busy with that. I'll still be doing last minute shopping, but I can trim it down a little.

Mer's boyfriend has gotten her two gifts, his mom has gotten her two gifts, his sister has a gift for her, and his little brother wants to get her something, too. She's tried to tell him that they need to chill out with the presents because we can't afford to reciprocate in kind, but I'm not sure he's passed the information along to his mom. I may have to give her a call. It's very sweet that they like Mer so much, but it puts us in an awkward position.

And Mer has lost her glasses, which means I've got to shell out another $200 (assuming I can still get the sale price). She's well aware I'd like to throttle her right now.

There is a plan for my ficmas fic, now I just need to write it.

Hey, how do you pronounce Caliga? Perse voiceposted recently and pronounced it differently than I do, so now I'm curious what everyone else says.

I need to post answers to my lyric meme. I know you're all waiting with bated breath.

I hope all of you that have exams going on are getting through it without too much stress and exhaustion.

Happy birthday to the token male on my flist, Brenton! I hope it's fabulous.

I totally forgot my happy pills this morning. Damn. I need to keep them in my purse.

My office firewall has not blocked LJ in over a week. Not sure how long this will last, but I'm very happy about it right now.

It's that time of the year when we get to wish for things. So, here's my list of wishes. I had a hard time coming up with this because Lord knows I don't need anything. I certainly don't expect anything. I already have some of the best friends in the world, which is worth more to me than anything I might get wrapped in pretty paper. In any case, I've made my list, checked it twice, and now it is documented - just in case Santa has LJ.

The round-the-clock Christmas music began today. It's not even Thanksgiving, people!

Christmas was very nice. We opened presents here at home, and then Mer and I headed to my mom's place while James went to R&T's. At Mom's I re-discovered my love of ham. Truly a heavenly food. Must stop by her place and eat leftovers... We watched Jesus Christ Superstar, which I had never seen before and was a little perplexed by. Later on Mer and I joined James at R&T's. Richard made eggnog. Lots of people don't like eggnog, I know, and I think that's because they only ever taste the uber-thick store bought stuff. Richard's eggnog is the best I've ever had. It's thinner and frothy, and he never makes enough of it. Guh. I <3 it.

Anyhoo, between all the various families, Meredith got an obscene haul of gifts. I won't list them. It's that bad.

I did pretty well, too. I am no longer using a filing cabinet as a desk, and I have a chair that does not fold, so I'm pretty darned happy. I also received some gift cards for iTunes and clothes, a very nice juicer, slippers, and various other little things.

And now, because I'm on vacation and don't feel like doing anything remotely worthwhile, I give you all a new LYRIC MEME. It's been awhile since I've done one of these. I think most of the songs are pretty easy.

Get to guessing! )
First, happy stuff! I got a package from Delaney and a card from Dawnie! Woo-hoo! Thank you so much for thinking of me, Delaney dear! Meredith asked if I was going to share with her, to which I replied, "I don't see your name on this box." *g* And thank you, Dawnie, for the card! I love mail. International mail is extremely fun. Did you two get mail from me?

And now for Kate's self-pitying ramble )

I took today off because my migraine and nausea had not gone away from yesterday. I'm more behind now than I was before, and that was pretty far behind, but I'm glad I took the day. The days to Christmas are getting fewer and fewer, and I expect by the time it arrives I'll be thoroughly exhausted. I love the holidays. *snicker* I do, honestly, but I wish I was better at planning my time.

I had three cards in the mail today! Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] dragonsangel68, [livejournal.com profile] liliaevans, and [livejournal.com profile] chelley3. I squeed and squeed! The rest of the household is jealous of all my mail. *beams*

My thoughts and prayers are with those folks on my flist who are going through difficult times right now. *hugs* to all of you, you know who you are.

The Gathering is not going to work out as planned. Sharlene's not going to be able to make it up, and it doesn't make sense for me to impose on Pud's time and stay at a hotel for three days when I can easily make a day trip down there whenever we feel like getting together. So yeah, disappointing.

Meredith's at her dad, like most weekends, and her cat misses her. He's being obnoxious.

On a more pleasant note, I went to the Restoration Hardware Outlet and got Foot Duvets (i.e. down slippers) for Mer's dad and my brother Kenny at really good prices. They are normally $22, but I got Rob's for $10 and Kenny's for $5. Woot for sales. They aren't the most attractive things on the planet, but they are lightweight, warm, and comfortable. I love down.

We had actually gone to the outlet to buy a nice set of towels for James' mom, but all they had in the Paradigm 802s were a rust color that wouldn't match her bathroom, so we'll have to go the regular store in Tysons. Blech. I hate going to Tysons. Traffic out there is a nightmare.

I got a Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] embe11ished! Squee! Thank you Jen!

I also got my annual check from my dad. Yay for money in place of actual family interactions. /sarchasm

I don't know if my brother Chris will be here for Christmas. Mom hasn't mentioned it, but no one in my family is very good about passing along information.

And now it's time for sleeping. 'Night all!

I am currently missing an office potluck because I forgot about it and didn't bring anything to contribute. My hope is that there is so much food that some will be leftover, and I can sneak up and snack on it a little later. >.> I like potlucks. However, I will not starve in any case because I brought lunch today. Yay me.

After a week or so of forgetting to do it, I've made reservations for my trek down to the Richmond area. I'm not staying where I had planned to stay because they charge by the week, and will not prorate, and I'm only staying a few days. However, according to Mapquest, I'm still within ten or fifteen minutes of the folks I'm planning to see, so it's all ok. I'm still very excited, and a little nervous, as is usual when I'm going to meet people for the first time. Oh my God, what if they hate me?! Yeah, I'm a little neurotic like that. Hardly a surprise.

I ought to get my car checked out before I go, huh? Maybe I'll drop it off Monday. It's not like Richmond is all that far from me, only about two hours, but I know I need an oil change and when I got my inspection done they mentioned that I have some belts that could stand to be replaced. Probably better to do that before going out of town.

Other things I need to do:

Turn in smuttakah fic that was due last weekend. *cough*
Clean the trash out of my car.
Finish Christmas shopping.
Wrap presents.
Mail Christmas cards/gifts to family and non-LJ friends.
Get a tree.
Get ornaments from storage.
Decorate tree.
Clean house.
Get mom a birthday gift because it is next Monday. Crap.
Order Mer's yearbook. Keep confirmation of order somewhere I can find it, as last year we got screwed.
Call bank to see if check to Verizon cleared. If it did, call Verizon and tell them that yes, they did receive payment. If not, mail another check to Verizon.
Pay car insurance. TODAY.
Figure out why I am so damned forgetful lately. Buy some Gingko Biloba or St. John's Wart or whatever you're supposed to take for forgetfulness (I don't remember - ha!).
Oh, and get some work done. @.@

On the twelfth day of Christmas, mugglechump sent to me...
Twelve games drumming
Eleven friends piping
Ten dogs a-leaping
Nine books dancing
Eight trees a-gardening
Seven cats a-writing
Six movies a-reading
Five bri-i-i-idget jones
Four national parks
Three fox news
Two jason isaacs
...and a roiben in a sense & sensibility.
Get your own Twelve Days:

That TWO Jason Isaacs! Woo!

Thank you to everyone who has loaded my Christmas stocking with lovely presents! They made me smile!

I found a Christmas song generator online. This gist of it is you type in a noun and it plugs the noun into a verse from a Christmas song. Pretty simplistic really. Anyway, because I am incredibly juvenile, I typed in 'penis'. This was the verse that popped up.

"There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found. For when the placed it on his penis he began to dance around."

I giggled like a pre-pubescent. Good old Frosty and his Viagra hat.

Something I found less amusing - I had ordered a Nizlopi CD. It arrived today. The case was right, but the CD wasn't. *sigh* The CD inside only had the JCB video on it, there were no songs. And Overstock doesn't have any more of this CD in stock, so I have to get a refund instead of an exchange. Now I've got to figure out where else I can acquire the CD. I was really excited about it, too. *pouts*

I scared the heck out of Becky driving home from work today. Do you ever have those days where you just can't seem to pay proper attention to the road? That was me this evening. I nearly rear-ended someone and then later I started to drive through a red light. Becky's a nervous little person (I can say that, as she's one of the only people I know who is shorter than me) and she's pregnant, so she was really happy to get out of the car when we got to her place. Fortunately I didn't actually cause any damage, and Becky was pretty good humored about the whole thing - you know, once she released the door handle from her vice-like grip. She did say that she'd drive tomorrow. *snicker*
I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

On an entirely different note - can anyone here make animated icons? I have a very specific one that I want, but I don't have the software to scroll through images. The icon I want is a little vulgar, just so my friends that are all sweetness and light know up front.

As usual, the weekend is too short. I can't believe I have to go back to work tomorrow. I don't want to! Bah. How many weeks until The Gathering? A little over two? Still too far.

I mailed most of my LJ friend cards and whatnot on Saturday. I have three things left to mail for people I know here, and I haven't even shopped for out of town family yet. Blergh. I did go to the mall today, which I usually enjoy at least a little. Not today. I just wasn't in the mood. Managed to buy a few things, but not a lot. The things I've ordered online (God bless the internet!) should arrive in a few days. I should see if there's more I can take care of online. It's so much simpler.

My yearly debate over whether to get my father a gift for either his birthday or Christmas Hannukah (Dad converted a several years ago) is raging. He sends me a check every year for Christmas. A fairly substantial one. However, I only talk to him about twice a year - when I call him. We used to get together for dinner around the holidays with my two brothers, James, and Meredith. Dad stopped bothering with that a few years ago. He used to give me a check and a small collection of nice tree ornaments (which he'd drop by my mom's house), but last year I just got the check. Don't misunderstand, it's not a matter of my being greedy. I appreciate what he gives me no matter what it is. It's just that every year is less and less personal. He has zero interest in his grandchildren (Meredith and my niece, Elizabeth). His wife doesn't like my brother, Chris, so Chris isn't allowed in Dad's house if Barbara's there. I haven't been invited to their house in several years. Dad claims this is because he doesn't want to inconvenience me by asking me to drive the hour and change into DC. So yeah, I can never decide if I ought to send him a gift (I usually do, though). One-sided relationships are very draining.

Wow, hadn't meant to delve into that tonight. I think I'll quit now before all my issues decide they need attention.

I am pretty darned happy today. Here are some of the reasons why:

1) I'm going to get to meet and spend significant time with [livejournal.com profile] mynuet, [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13, and (I've heard rumors) [livejournal.com profile] heyurs during the days between Christmas and my birthday. I'm SO excited! Seriously, SO excited. Did I mention that I'm excited?

2) I checked my friends page this morning to find a 'Diminished' drabble from [livejournal.com profile] lady_rhiyana just for ME! She writes the best Lucius I've ever read. It's so good, I don't even feel badly for cheating on D/G with this not-exactly-romantic L/G.

3) I'm able to do some nice and/or helpful things for folks I care about this season.

4) I have festive winter icons!

I'm feeling pretty fortunate.

And, just because I feel like sharing my morning with you all, here is a conversation that took place at my house today.

Mer: Mom! I can't take a shower - the water's cold!
Me: Meredith, I told you that if you want to make sure you have hot water, you should shower at night. James and I are both up before you in the mornings.
Mer (huffily): Well, what am I supposed to do?
Me: You can either suffer through a cold shower...
Mer (interrupts): No. It's freezing!
Me (getting exasperated): Then you go without a shower! What do you want me to do, Mer? Pull hot water from my butt?
James: It would be 98.6 degrees if it made the trip all the way through you.
Me & Mer: ...
James: Just stating a fact.

Hooray for MAIL! When I finally got home around 8:30 this evening, James said, "I'm jealous of you. You have three cards in the mail." And I DID! [livejournal.com profile] heyurs sent me a super nice card that made me feel all warm and loved, and I got Christmas cards with very sweet messages from [livejournal.com profile] castoffstarter and [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13! What a great way to end a very long day!

Now I just need to get on the stick and mail out my Christmas stuff.

In life news, my grandmother is out of the hospital. She's staying in a nursing home for the next two weeks to finish recuperating. Apparently she got a nurse in the ICU fired. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I'll share when I find out more.

Mom is flying home on Wednesday, so I only have to feed the kitty tomorrow night and then pick Mom and Kenny up from the airport at lunchtime Wednesday. I love my family, and my mom's cat, but I'll be very glad to be done with that extra driving every night. And Punkin (the cat) is lonely, so she'll be happy to have company again.

Last night Becky started bleeding a little and went to the hospital. She and the babies seem to be fine, but she's on medical leave until her OB clears her to come back to work. She had an appointment scheduled for Wednesday anyway, so she'll probably be back to work on Thursday. Aside from having a fright, the biggest concern Becky has is that they did a sonogram at the hospital which means she probably won't have one at her appointment like she was supposed to, and she had hoped to get more pictures from it. The hospital, of course, is not set up for that sort of thing.

I have to say, far too many people I know have been in the hospital in the past few weeks. Nobody else can be ill! *points authoritative finger at you all*

I finally turned in my exchange fic this weekend. I was not very happy with it. I'm hoping my dgsmuttakah story turns out better.

I need Christmas-y icons.

That's all for now.

*hugs to all*
Who wants snail mail? If you haven't already given me your address and you want to get a card from me this holiday season, please go here and leave me the pertinent information. All comments are screened.

I'm at work and I'm bored. This is bad, as it means that one of two things is going to happen:

A) My program managers will all provide the information I need tomorrow, rather than today, and I will be here working furiously all day the day before Thanksgiving.

B) My program managers will not get me the information I'm waiting for at all, and I'll get crap next week for not having my financials completed.

I share a wall with another business within my building. The office specifically on the other side of the wall has four or five people sharing it. My wall is so thin that I can hear them talking all day. I can even clearly hear their metal window blinds clattering when someone knocks into them. It's really annoying. Also, the thermostat in my office controls the heating and cooling in their office - thanks to poor planning when this building was designed. So periodically I get emails from my wall neighbors asking me to adjust the temperature one way or the other. If I'm not here, they get the janitor to open my office and adjust the thermostat. I will be SO glad when we move to the new building, even if I won't have a window office anymore.
