I cheat when I do this each year, but for good reason. It's under a cut because my life is just as dull the second time around. Here's the synopsis: My daughter's silly and I live for memes, quizzes, and RPGs.

Kate's year in review )

And as a New Year's gift, I'm taking prompts for one-sentence fics. (I promise I'll actually do these.) Leave me a prompt and a character or two from Potterverse and I'll write a one-sentence fic. If you're not familiar with them, you can see some examples here: http://mugglechump.livejournal.com/106550.html

Happy New Year, everybody!

This is from 'The Proposal', my Ginny/Lucius ficlet.

Okay, it's been forever since I've done a real update, so I'll try to catch up on the important moments in the last - what? - two months or so? *shrugs* A long time at any rate. My life is pretty routine anyway, so it won't take that long.

The excitement that is my life )
So, we've all seen that meme that's going around. The 100-word drabble one? Okay, I'll do it. I'm following Elle's example though and saying:

- I'll do at least the first 5 requests I get. If you want to request something after I have 5 requests, I might do it. I might not.
- I'm not promising exactly 100 words. It will be at least that much, but possibly more. I can be wordy.
- Keep to Harry Potter 'verse. I like other fandoms, but I don't write other fandoms.
- Give me a character or two, and a prompt, please. A prompt like a word or phrase. For example, 'scissors' or 'in the garden', not 'Draco and Harry meet on the Quidditch pitch five years after the final battle and they're both going for the snitch and Draco bumps Harry's broom'.

Have at it!

FINALLY submitted my fic for the exchange. Finally. Finallyfinallyfinallyfinallyfinally.

Also watched Enchanted. It was very cute. Find it very funny that Edward has Cormac's ego, only he's not sleazy. Wish they'd given his better hair, although it did fit the fairy tale look and the character himself. It's just a shame to mess up the pretty with dorky hair. Patrick Dempsey was love. And I'm proud to say that I liked Giselle despite Amy Adams' evil connotation in my head. An odd thing I noted: In both Enchanted and Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day, Amy Adams has a scene where she comes out of the shower/tub and is hidden only by a well-placed towel. If you haven't seen Miss Pettigrew yet and you're a female of sufficient maturity to enjoy a film that is charming rather than in-your-face provocative, you should go.

This is the verbal diarrhea that occurs when Kate has had less than three hours sleep.

I didn't chat with ANYONE last night. Not even a little. Had serious withdrawl. Now I need to get a shower and head to work so I can sit through an unusually long kick-off meeting and try not to doze off. I think this is one of those days where I'll be asking if I can go home now before I even go in. Blerghhhhhhhhh.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] persephone33, who stole it from [livejournal.com profile] sue_bridehead, who made it up.
All that you have to do is post the first sentence or paragraph from all your fics. I did ALL of them, posted and non-posted, finished, incomplete, probably abandoned. So yeah. Here's my stuff, much of which you may have seen before.

I'll try to do a real update tonight. I need to thank people, catch up on comments, finish (or work towards finishing) the M/S scene for Caliga, post the S/S scene tonight (unless Snape wants to post?), and finish the bio I'm working on for Caliga character #2 - because I'm not obsessed enough with it already. I should also probably do some laundry and dishes. Maybe make dinner. *bursts out laughing* Who am I kidding? I'll order Chinese or something.

I don't get a lot of cuddling these days. Today was an exception, and it was lovely. I spent last night at James' place, where Picabo gave me kisses and love. Today I cuddled up with James on his chaise and took a nap. This evening I had dinner at Richard & Tracey's and my nephew Pike cuddled up with me on the couch to watch the final episode of The Next Iron Chef. Lots of love came my way in the last 24 hours, it was very nice.

There are a number of stories I'd very much like to see updated, but I'm trying not to be too pushy about it. It would be very hypocritical of me to whine (excessively) about wanting new chapters, considering how long I take to write anything.

Man, am I tired! I should really go to bed. Soon...

I'm working on expanding the Lucius/Ginny one-shot I did and I feel like sharing. No particular reason - I just want to. So, here's a little snippet from a little later on in the story.

A future scene from The Proposal )

Regarding another WIP: The second chapter of my mail order bride fic should be finished soon.

Spoilers and speculation )

ETA: While putting together a lyric meme (in honor of a certain friend's birthday), it occurred to me that I have A LOT of British music. It makes up a significant portion of my music library. Not just older bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and The Clash, but quite a bit of new stuff, too. Interesting.

Gilderoy Lockhart was not a nice man with a charming ego problem! Why are there so many people who are willing to overlook the fact that he was a total fraud who Obliviated people on a regular basis, and who was intending to Obliviate Harry and Ron and leave them to be killed by the basilisk? Come on, folks, quit writing him off as quirky! He was not a good man!

'Overplayed the evil a bit', my ass.

/rant resulting from a less than stellar review

In other news, I used half of my Avobath bath bomb tonight. Hurray for fizzy, fragrant, green bathwater! I smell very nice now. Not that I was especially stinky before, mind. While soaking, I plotted a Ginny/Draco (non-smut) scene for 'The Proposal'. *grins happily*

I miss Emmie, but I hope she's having a great time at the retreat this weekend.

Richard (my brother-in-law) made really yummy mac & cheese tonight. Tomorrow he's making stuffed cabbage. I love living near people I like who can cook!

Mer is at the Taylor Swift/Brad Paisley concert tonight.

Mer and I are having lunch with my mom tomorrow.

I watched 'Knocked Up' the other night with Richard (the BFish-type guy). It was pretty cute. I have 'Miss Potter' here, too. I should watch that soon.

I got mail! TWICE! One lovely letter from [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13 and one very sweet card from [livejournal.com profile] water_jade. I love my friends. You guys never fail to make me happy.

I've realized that I have an appalling lack of The Police and Red Hot Chili Peppers in my music portfolio. This must be remedied post haste.

What is the name of the band that does that 'going the distance' song? You know the one.

He's going the distance
He's going for speed
She's all alone (all alone)
All alone in her time of need

That one. They have another one about a woman who changes her name from Kitty? to Kelly? or something like that. WHO IS THAT? I could Google it, but I'm lazy and I figure one of you will know the answer.

It is ridiculous that I'm thinking about turning on the air conditioner at night in the month of October. It is fall, damn it. Act like it!

I'm going to Richard's tonight for pizza and a movie. He's bringing the pizza and I'm bringing the movie. Although he picked it. We're going to watch 'Knocked Up'. So, you may have noticed the breaking-things-off plan is not going so hot. *sigh* I can't seem to find my backbone. Have any of you seen it?

If you haven't been watching [livejournal.com profile] caliga_rpg, you should check it out. I'm not playing because I suck at scening. I have to watch, though, because I'm feeling left out. :/ Because, you know, even if I didn't suck at scening, I totally have time for that with work being crazy and the million and one fics I'm being so very productive on.

I want to post 'The Proposal' on FIA because it will, eventually, be a story that fits the archive (and because it's my 'home' archive, the archive I love the most). But since all I have ready to post is that first Ginny/Lucius bit, I'm a little afraid I'll be chased by D/G fans with pitchforks. Perhaps I'll wait until I've got more of the story written. More prudent?

I haven't used this icon in a long time. I needed to break it out.

Bah, it's getting late. I'd better go get ready.

ETA: Stealthily corrected lyrics.

... I can access LJ from work again. No telling how long it will last, but for now - HUZZAH!

So now I'm posting just because I can.

I cooked dinner last night! This is a rare event. Meredith didn't eat any, because Meredith is Meredith. Anyway, I made breaded turkey cutlets and rotini. It was lovely, though not pretty. My cooking skills are not great and even when I make something tasty, it rarely looks nice. I'm brought some of the leftovers for lunch. I cook AND I'm thrifty! Woo!

An inordinate number of my flisters are sick or in worrisome situations. Prayers for everyone! I'm handing 'em out like Watchtower pamphlets. (A Jehovah's Witness joke, if you are confused.)

Do you ever get those crazy urges to start dancing? I'm having one now. I want to pull out my iPod and jam. Unfortunately I've got no rhythym at all, so that combined with the fact that I'm at work makes this an inappropriate desire to give in to. Bah.

That stupid Lucius/Ginny plot bunny won't leave me alone. It keeps poking me and telling me what happens next. And it's a naughty little bunny. Lest you worry about my loyalty to Ginny and the other Malfoy male, Draco is having his say in this untold story, too. Quite a rivalry between father and son, let me tell you! While it's nice to have some idea where a story is going, I really don't need another work in progress. Why couldn't it be a good bunny and stay a drabble?

I'd better run. Hope you're all having a good day.

Why is my internetz so slow tonight? It's irritating.

Why is Lys' LJ not letting me comment on her entry? That's irritating, too. Although she's probably just as happy not to hear from me on this topic. *winks* Just kidding. Lys tolerates my conservative indignation with very good humor. That's one of the many reasons I love her.

Why is it that I can spend the entire afternoon being attacked by a plot bunny, but as soon as I sit in front of my computer it skulks into its warren and won't come out? Bah. Stupid work. If I wasn't so busy there, I could have written the blasted drabble already. Unfortunately, I am really, really busy.

I'm planning to close out my lyric meme tomorrow. If you want to make some final guesses, you can do that here: http://mugglechump.livejournal.com/156658.html#cutid1

I updated my favorite character meme with the answers that weren't guessed. If you're curious, you can find that here: http://mugglechump.livejournal.com/155476.html

If you haven't been to www.stepheniemeyer.com and you are a Twilight fan, you should go. She has nifty outtakes and other squee-inducing stuff. The most phenomenal being the first chapter of Midnight Sun, which will eventually be published. Midnight Sun is Twilight, but from Edward's POV. Guh. Could I love Edward any more? *thinks* Nope, I don't think I could. I lurve Edward. The frustrating thing about reading this snippet, though, is that Midnight Sun won't be published until after the fourth book in the Twilight series. That book is slated to come out in the fall of 2008, so figure a year or two after that. I'm too impatient to wait that long! *stomps feet and generally pitches a fit* You can read the first chapter here: http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun_chapter1.pdf If you feel like tormenting yourself, that is.

Last night Mer and I had Starbucks and Coldstone for dinner. Not great for my weight loss plan, but SO yummy. Still, I was half a pound lighter this morning than yesterday morning, so it's all good.

I've been trying to work on Anniversary, but not getting very far. I've been making progress on the second chapter of my mail order bride fic, though. None of my multi-chaptered fics have been updated in over a year. That's bad, and I'm trying very hard to remedy it. Think good, writing-friendly thoughts for me, okay?

I have a date with Richard tonight. I know, I know. I'm weak and cowardly. But I'm also hungry, and I don't want the Hot Pocket in my freezer. >.>

I'm spamming my flist to apologize to the folks on my [livejournal.com profile] lucius_augustus flist for all the posts. I'm still not done (Anniversary & Loyalties still need to go up), so bear with me as I get all my fics loaded please.

I'm also spamming to show off the fabby icons [livejournal.com profile] heyurs directed me to find. It's made by [livejournal.com profile] fading_melody and she has a fantastic variety of fictional boyfriends/fictional lesbian girlfriends/fictional manwhores/fictional friends. I've requested a Bill Compton one, though I am the only Bill supporter I know.

Well, the dryer is done de-wrinkling my clothes. I'd better go to work. The question is now: Do I stop for Starbucks, or save the money and avoid the fat content? I'll decide at the pertinent intersection.

ETA: I misidentified the icon maker's LJ name as faded_melody. It is actually fading_melody. Corrected above.
What is my friends list writing at the moment?

Fic

( Jul. 30th, 2007 11:52 am)
So, I've written a little drabble. It's Post-DH, so SPOILER WARNING! This is later on the same day as the epilogue occurs. I sort of lost my focus at the end, but meh. I wrote something. Yay for that.

[livejournal.com profile] lady_rhiyana wrote me a timestamp ficlet! I asked for a Draco scene set 6 months after he married Ginny in Loose Ends. If you are familiar with the story, you know that Draco and Ginny do not see each other for years after they wed, so this is not a D/G scene. It is, however, awesome, and violent, and a little bit smutty (Bonus!). It pretty much embodies everything I love about Draco as portrayed by [livejournal.com profile] lady_rhiyana.

Even you hard core D/Gers should read it. Yes, Draco's with someone else, but it all turns out right in the end. *evil cackle*

Check it out! http://lady-rhiyana.livejournal.com/17514.html

OH! And I'm going to see OotP tonight! IMAX, baby!

I believe all the submissions for the current [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange have been posted and guessing/voting begins tomorrow. Have you been reading? Have you gone and looked at all the pretty art?

If not, go do so. Now! And leave comments. Especially for mine. (You'll just have to figure out which one that is on your own, though, because I'm not allowed to tell you.)

Now that I have finally turned in my long overdue exchange fic, I need to get back to work on my WIPs. The upside of the challenge was that I got to write a plot bunny that's been niggling at me for a long time, but I never had time for. One down!

First on the list is Anniversary, if for no other reason than so the youngsters at MNFF will get off my back.

Then I need to finish my smutty one shot. I'm hoping to get that done in time to post it for the HateSex! theme on [livejournal.com profile] smut_friday, which is August 10th. That gives me a month, and all I have left is the hard part! So, we'll see.

I've got a good chunk of DIM chapter 3 written, which I should hurry up and finish since I haven't updated that in over two years. The problem is I really have NO IDEA where I'm going with the story. It was the sort of thing where I started it really gung ho and then thought, "Oh, right. A plot would be good." I like it too much to take it down, though. It's sappy and OOC, but whatever. I still dig it.

Then, of course, there's the mail order bride story I started for Pud's contest last year. I have a rough plan for that one, but I don't have much done in the way of writing yet.

Other things that have been going on in my life:

- I truly think that Meredith is trying to drive me (and perhaps herself) to an early grave. It scares me to death that she'll be legally an adult next year. I really worry about her. There is a story behind this, but I'm not going to go into it now. Two people are very lucky I didn't hurt them, though. It was only through amazing restraint and the presence of the police that I was able to hold back. Yeah, fun times in Manassas!

- Picabo stayed with Richard and Tracey last week because James was going to be doing so much running around. Friday night while they were out she managed to unlock and open the door to their apartment and let herself out. Fortunately, a) she didn't encounter any other dogs while talking herself for a walk, and b) one of the neighbors I met on the 4th saw her and came to my apartment to let me know she was running around by herself. She came right away when I called her, and stayed the night at my place.

My nephew Pike's heroes are NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield and Iron Chef Bobby Flay. He's so cool.

OOTP is going to be playing in the IMAX theatre here, but I don't have tickets to see it there and they are sold out. Boo. Can you imagine? Jason Isaacs in IMAX? *sigh*
