Fic

So, I've written a little drabble. It's Post-DH, so SPOILER WARNING! This is later on the same day as the epilogue occurs. I sort of lost my focus at the end, but meh. I wrote something. Yay for that.

Draco twirled his fork thoughtfully, not-so-subtly ignoring the witch seated across from him. He’d scarcely said a word to her the entire evening. The curt nod he’d deigned to bestow upon her at the station earlier in the day had warned her of his mood, but she’d hoped he’d be over it by now.

“What?” she demanded finally. Patience had never been her forte.

Slowly he turned to look at her, setting the fork down with the kind of excruciating care displayed only when he was teetering on the edge of his breaking point. Their eyes met and she knew she would not win this battle. Draco would not back down today.

“You’ve not told him about us.”

The words were spoken softly. It had taken some time for her to understand that Draco did not shout his displeasure. In stark contrast to the Weasley family, it was when his voice was almost a whisper that one needed to tread most carefully.

“I don’t want to hurt him.” Her words were quiet, too, but it was not fury that made them so.

A thin smile spread across his face and his eyes narrowed. “You prefer to hurt me?”

“Draco, no,” she cried. Reaching across the table, she took his hand, but withdrew it immediately under his disdainful glare. “I love you.”

“And yet you continue to allow Potter to think your divorce is just a little snag in your relationship that you’ll get over eventually.”

Ginny flinched, unable to deny the accusation. Even after three years, Harry still behaved as though they were married. As integrated into the Weasley family as he was, it was difficult to set appropriate boundaries; and there were the children to consider, but it would be lie to say that she’d made the efforts she should have to truly move away from their relationship. To allow them both to go on with their lives.

Cupping her face with an elegant hand, Draco looked at her intently. “Is it a snag, Ginny? Will you go back to Potter?”

“No,” she whispered, covering his hand with her own. “I’m yours, Draco. Only yours.”

“Then I see no reason to wait any longer.” He stood quickly, pulling her up with him. “You’ll break the news to Potter, and then we’ll tell the children of our intent to marry at Christmas. They should be used to the idea by the time they come home for the holidays.”

“Marry at Christmas?” Ginny exclaimed. “That’s awfully quick considering you haven’t even proposed.”

Draco gave her a self-satisfied grin. “You’re mine, and I’m tired of waiting.”

LOL
I'm sooo not a D/G shipper but you write them well. I see you have Harry and Ginny divorcing. XD

And I love how you wrote Draco....snarky.
I hope you turn this into a one-shot. >>

*gasp* Not a D/G shipper? Stick around, we'll convert you! (www.dracoandginny.com for further proof of the Fire & Ice awesomeness!) Our motto is: Our ships is already crazy, so we don't have to be!

Long live the Pink Haired Babies!

And yeah, I abhor adultery, so divorce was the only option. How many people really marry their high school sweethearts anyway?

Thank you for the compliment, though, even if it isn't your cup of tea!

Oh dear, it's worse than I thought!

Well, I'll just consider you an as yet undiscovered dyed-in-the-wool F&I fan. *grins*

Yaya, for Draco. That is the way to tell her to get on with it! Bittersweet and lovely. I suppose it would be a very difficult transition for everyone, and I can't blame Draco for pushing Gin. She needs to make a firm decision one way or another!

Hee. I love your icon!

Thanks! I figure it's hard to explain within such a close-knit family that your relationship isn't the same anymore. Draco'd had enough of that nonsense, though. :D

*points to icon*

I have kinds of new ones!

Of course Draco would. He's a no-nonsense kind of guy. That is why I love him.

There was a dark haired woman? I must have blocked that part out of my mind. :D

Oooh, excellent! Care to write a follow-up to this little drabble? :

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Thanks! We'll see. I may continue if I can come up with a plot of some sort. My WIP list just keeps expanding. One day I'll finish something!

Long live D/G.

(I still maintain that Draco's curt nod at Harry was a secret signal to Ginny. ;P Well, not really, but that would be pretty great.)

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Of course it was! Harry's so oblivious, he'd never know the difference!

Really grand, Kate. The intensity of him placing his utensils down with care in fury -- WOW! I could totally see it. Very well done. I'm generally going to be a EWE kinda of girl. (Epilogue, what epilogue?) but if you're going to take it into account then I think you've done it magnificently! I'm anti cheat too... so this was grand! YAY for Kate!

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Thank you! EWE, huh? That's great. Most of my stories will ignore DH entirely (and possibly some of the earlier books), but I wanted a canon compliant, plausible (in the relative world of D/G) situation for Draco and Ginny to be together.

I don't like adultery fics either. At least, I don't like them when it's Draco or Ginny doing the cheating. I can manage if they are the ones getting screwed over. All the more reason for them to come together!

From: [identity profile] orpheus-samhain.livejournal.com

Yay! There was nothing between Harry and Ginny on that bloody platform. They could have been acquaintances. I love determined Draco :)

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Exactly - nowhere in the epilogue did it say that Harry and Ginny were still married. They didn't interact at all!

Draco seems like the sort who knows what he wants.

From: [identity profile] lady-rhiyana.livejournal.com

The epilogue is canon up to that moment. So anything after it is fair game, right?

Obviously the dark-haired woman (if not a nanny) is a filthy rich Ministry influential pureblood who calmly agreed to a marriage of convenience in exchange for the ancient Malfoy name.

She'll look the other way.

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Ack. I just re-read the epilogue and it does refer to Draco's wife. Blech. Well, I choose to believe that was an assumption on Harry's part. Honestly, it's not as though they've kept in touch, is it? Could be his ex-wife. Could be a nanny. Could be a wife of convenience who will calmly step aside. Could be some random woman trying to talk to him. The possibilities are endless.

From: [identity profile] dragonsangel68.livejournal.com

So impossibly Draco! He wants what is his and he's damned well going to have it when he wants *g*

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Damn right! He doesn't run on other people's timetables.

From: [identity profile] crazy-lil-loud1.livejournal.com

Aww this made my heart happy.
Stupid Harry doesn't deserve Ginny.
He simply can't handle her.

From: [identity profile] twinklepug.livejournal.com

teehee!

Could this be an alternate "reality" where draco's hairline isn't receding? kthanx.

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Pfft. Draco's hair would never recede. He wouldn't let it. That was just a trick of the light and Harry's wishful thinking.

From: [identity profile] sidnandragin.livejournal.com

I loved it. I so see Draco behaving the way he does when he wants something. I love it!
More please!

From: [identity profile] toobusycrashing.livejournal.com

I made that avator! Lovely to see people liked it and it being used!

From: [identity profile] persephone33.livejournal.com

Hey, there. Do you mind if I read this for the September podcast at FIA? Pretty please? *bats eyelashes*

From: [identity profile] persephone33.livejournal.com

Fantastic! Thank you! Do you want to give it a title? And which author name shall I use?

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

This drabble is called 'Impatience' and my author name is KateinVA, which is pronounced just like it reads. Kate in V.A.

Thank you!
