Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post a line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: No cheating.

Ok, I ignored step 5 a little, but I had good reason. I don't know the words to Pie Jesu and I can't understand The Clash.

Wow. Just, WOW. #3 is that song, but I have Sara Evans' version. #8 is Party for Two (yep, by Shania). #13 is Nemesis by Shriekback (you get super snaps!). #15 is by Sweet. #19 is Bobby Darin doing Mack the Knife.

You know your music! I'm a little surprised you don't recognize #18 since you got almost all the others.

5, 9 & 11 I doubt anyone will get. One's a rockabilly song, one's by a comedian and one is just by a group that's not super well known.

WOW!

From: [identity profile] cliodnahpfan.livejournal.com

I ♥ music of all kinds! My Dad says it's impossible to like that many genres, but then I point out that my Mom was like that, too. Shuts him up every damned time! LOL :D

From: [identity profile] cliodnahpfan.livejournal.com

*is a moron*

I recognize #18 now, because it's a song I refused to let my stepdaughter listen to when she was 6 and wanted to hear it... The Waitresses, "I Know What Boys Like." It was gonna drive me crazeh until I figured it out, I knew it was from the 80's and I LOVE 80's music!!

Can you download music if I send it to you?

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Send it to me how? by email? I can't download it at work (fun nazis), but I can at home. My home email is kateinva@aol.com.

Meredith has taken #6 as her theme song. The first time she heard it she was like, "This is about me!" Right, Mer, they wrote it in anticipation of your arrival on Earth. 80's music is the best!

God, now I'm tempted to pick harder songs and see if you can guess them. I'm such a mook!

*knew I should have brought my iPod to work*

I'll see what I can come up with. *hee hee* It's Name that Tune On The Net!

Alright, you are officially teh songstress. I bow down to your greatness.

Genius of Love is actually by the Tom Tom Club and #8 is Lene Lovich, but the song is Lucky Number. I thought I'd have you on the schlocky jojo song - it's a guilty pleasure of mine. #3 is I Beg Your Pardon by Kon Kan, circa 1989.

And since no one else seems to be guessing, I'll tell you that, from my original list, #5 is Make A Circuit With Me by the Polecats. #11 is Walking on a Wire by Lowen & Navarro (I always think of Narcissa or Draco chewing out Lucius when I listen to it) and #9 is Almighty Malachi, Professional Bowling God by Stephen Lynch.

From: [identity profile] cliodnahpfan.livejournal.com

hehe!! :) I think that, rather than emailing you songs, I'll make a cd and send it to you :)

...more? *begs*

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

A cd would be killer!

I'll get some more together. Might take me a little while, I'm on a con call. Tonight I can ravage my iPod and put together a big list.

Would you want a CD of the groups/songs you don't know? Not that there are many, but I love L&N and Stephen Lynch is HYSTERICAL (though not kid friendly).

From: [identity profile] cliodnahpfan.livejournal.com

To quote Jay: HELLS YEAH!

I love hearing new music :D One of these days, I'll get your number and call you, and we can talk about music!

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Oooo, actual conversation!!! I'm geeked!

Ok, I tried to make this considerably more difficult (though some of them are still pretty easy) so if you come back with all these right away I'll be bummed by my seriously lacking knowledge of music.

12. Knuckle crack the bone, 21 to win
13. It’s not far to never never land
14. Every time I pop I think of my Pop and pay my dues
15. Like another can of beans
16. Say I wear my faith on my sleeve
17. All this leavin’ her alone is killin’ me

*grins* This is the most fun I've had at work in a long time.

This is a great day. Online goofiness and someone bought me lunch!

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Oh, and I have one slightly greater challenge for you. I am known for misunderstanding lyrics. Here is my 'best' screw-up, see if you can figure out the correct song and lyric from what I misheard. This happened years ago, but I am still teased about it.

Wrong lyric:
"I scream my balls off"

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Yes it is! When that song first came out, it came on the radio and I tried to get James to switch the station because I didn't think it was appropriate for Mer to hear (she was about six). He's asked me why and I said, "Because she sings 'I scream my balls off.' He got all confused and listened intently and finally said (laughing his ass off)

No Dear! It's I screen my phone calls!

Everyone we knew had to hear that story.
