Warning: This started out as a gripe because my cat ruined my ear buds. It grew into tales of Mia which probably interest no one but me.

One of my cats, Mia, loves to chew and eat things that could potentially send her to the vet for (another) surgery. It's like she's on a quest. You'd think one surgery/near death caused by eating things that are not meant to be eaten would be enough for her, but no. She still tries to munch on every piece of string/dental floss/hair band (the kind you put in your hair not, say, Motley Crue) she can find. Keeping her from harm requires a serious bit of vigilance. Mer = not that vigilant. Recently Mia got a hold of the ear buds for Mer's iPod. I thought she'd eaten one bud and about 6 inches of cord until I found the separated bud in another part of the apartment and breathed a sigh of relief. Mer's been borrowing my ear buds since then. Last night I saw Mer's iPod laying on the couch right before I took her to practice. I picked it up and set it on the counter to keep it (and Mia) out of harm's way while we were gone. It's unclear whether I was just too late or whether Mia actually got on the counter to seek out the evil ear buds for destruction, but now neither Mer nor I can listen to our iPods. Fortunately she did not swallow this one either. *sigh* I love my cat.

Mia also has a thing for paper products. Toilet paper quails at the sight of her. Bathroom doors must always be closed lest Mia decimate our TP supply then kill herself with dental floss from the trash can. This is hindered by the fact that Mia LOVES bathrooms. She runs for the door everytime she thinks I heading for one. This probably has something to do with our having kept her in the master bathroom when we first got her. The reasoning for that was two-fold. First, she was only about 5 weeks old when Meredith 'rescued' her from her mother the storm drain and we didn't want her to get hurt by our older cats and super-exuberant dog. Second, she was from a feral cat colony and we didn't know for a little while if she was carrying any diseases. She was really cute, though. *points to icon where Mia is smaller than a lotion bottle*

Continuing on my Mia-related ramble, Mia has always had a very strong personality. She'd pounce on Lucky and Jinx *sniff* from the time she was allowed out into the general population. She'd do it just to be evil. She's just like that. Picabo (our German Shepherd mix, if you didn't know) was Mia's best friend straight away, though. Mia wasn't terribly concerned with whether Picabo wanted to be her best friend - she loved the dog and therefore they were buds. And whereas the other animals immediately run/look shamed when they're caught doing something they aren't supposed to do, Mia just looks at us like, "What's your problem?" This very brazen personality is always in full force around Mer, James, and me, but if anyone else is around she hides. Richard, Tracey, Becky, and Manny all make comments like 'I think I've only seen Mia once or twice since you got her.' They think of her as a very shy creature, which makes me snort.

You may be wondering if this cat has any redeeming traits. She does. She's actually very loving (on her terms). Sometimes she lets me hold her like a baby. She loves to play, especially with the laser pointer. And she's such a terrible hunter, it's very endearing. She tries really hard to catch things, but she just doesn't have the hunting skillz. Not enough discipline to be strategic about it.

LJ is blocked again at work. Fun Nazis. Speaking of work, I should probably go there now.

Dash has a very forceful personality too. We have a battle of wills going on right now. He is determined to lounge on my sideboard, and I'm equally determined his little butt will be on the floor where it belongs. It keeps things interesting to say the least.

Heh. You can't help but love them, though. Kitties rule. Sadly, they know it.

My furry friend hides behind the water heater whenever somebody comes over. But, like your Mia, she's just not shy. Not when it's just us around!

And if she would just keep her feet off the counters and the table... She's got all the furniture in the place to hop all over, and yet, what she wants is to put those cute little feet on the table. *sigh*

Maybe cheap ear buds? Or get a pair for yourself, anyway. Tempting things like earbuds might have to have permanent storage places in a drawer. I remember the time my furry friend got a hold of my earphones. She took off the foam thing that covers the earpiece and shredded it. She leaves the TP alone, fortunately, but she licks plastic. What is there on plastic that would be worth licking off? Eeeeuuuuuw!

When Lucky and Jinx were little they hid behind the water heater a lot, too. It was very cute to see those little kitten faces peeking around from behind there.

They just know what you don't want them to do and they seize on it. It's like small children and bad language. *sighgiggles*

Oh she sounds lovely, though! I look rascal animals with strong personalities and I love animals that are best friends with totally different species the best. I'm sure they make quite the air together, Mia and Picabo.

There is something endearing about her pain-in-the-assitude. Picabo was never as fond of Mia as Mia was of her, but she suffered Mia's affection with good humor most of the time. Mia loved to share Picabo's bed, but unless she snuggled up after Picabo was already sleeping she would end up all by herself in that big bed. Picabo would rather take the floor. *snickers*
