The last few days have had some unusual moments. Somehow, my life manages to be dull and really bizarre moments all at the same time.

On Friday I went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch, which is not unusual. However, the fact that I was behind a car which carried a passenger who repeatedly had to open the door to vomit - that was odd, and not very appetizing. Seriously, who says, "Sorry you're feeling poorly, dude. Mind if I grab some greasy fast food before I take you home? Try not to puke on my waffle fries."

At Mer's game today (which they won - YAY!), she sustained an injury that will result in the nail of her big toe falling off for the third time.

Also at Mer's game today, a girl from the other team didn't like that Meredith won the ball from her, so she deliberately and obviously kicked Mer in retaliation as Mer tried to walk away to keep up with the game play. Fortunately, the ref called it.

More fortunately, the ref did not see that Meredith actually took a swing at the girl. This is REALLY not a normal reaction. Mer will play very rough, and she's not above retaliating physically in game play if she's really ticked off, but she's never tried to hit someone during a game before. She felt the girl's kick and just whipped around swinging. Luckily, the girl had taken a few steps back and Mer missed. Very bizarre.

A much more typical interaction occurred later in the game when another player from the other team yelled at Mer, "What the f*ck do you think you're doing?" and Mer replied calmly, "I'm playing soccer. What are you doing?" No idea where she got that sarcastic streak... *whistles innocently*

At the same game, one of our assistant coaches got a yellow card because the ref didn't like where he was standing. o.O (League rules allow coaches to stand anywhere on their half of the sideline. The ref decided he didn't want the coaches walking down to the end of the field, and carded our coach despite the fact that his preference does not equate to a league rule. This is not the first foul the ref made up all on his own.)

After the game, Mer and I went to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch. Towards the end of the meal, I lifted my glass and the entire bottom of the glass fell off, resulting in a very wet and sticky Kate. I hadn't hit it against anything and the break was very smooth. It was one of those tall, thin glasses that tapers, so all of a sudden I was holding just a glass tube that was still filled with ice. Fortunately I was wearing my Crocs, which are super easy to clean.

The glass incident reminds me of something that happened when I was a young teenager. I had gone to my aunt's house for lunch with my sister (who is older). My aunt asked me to bring the iced tea outside, where we were eating lunch. I picked up the pitcher by the handle... and the pitcher fell off the handle! There I stood, staring down at the iced tea all over the kitchen floor. My aunt asked, "did you drop the pitcher?"

And I answered, "No!" Obviously, since I was still holding the handle to the pitcher... there is no way to predict total equipment failure!

It's always shocking when something like that happens. I sat there for a moment, holding the part of the glass that was still in my hand, and then I started laughing. What else can you do?

Go Mer! It's good that she'll stand up for herself during a game :)

Got to love refs that think they can make their own rules up *rolls eyes*

Hee. I knew you, of all my flisters, would understand why I'm glad Mer didn't get caught, but not horrified that that she got carried away like that. You can't let the other team intimidate you or they'll see you as the weak link through the whole game. I'd rather she didn't do things that would get her ejected, but I'm ok with her letting them know she won't take any crap through a bit of rough play.

This is the second time our team will be sending a letter complaining about this particular ref. He's really awful.

Well, you can't let them push you around! You just have to time things right, so the ref doesn't see ;)

Some people should consider different career options, like not being a ref. We have a few in the football league and every time we get them complaints are submitted - it's so painful to have to do all that extra paperwork!

*giggles* Did you get the restaurant to replace your drink? Am loving Meredith's sarcasm! I'd just have shot her a greasy, but I like Mer's way better!

Yes, they brought me another one. This time it didn't break!

Mer can come up with some amusing comments. *grins*

Way to go, Mer!  : Poor baby toes. She's going to have to wrap them up tighter. Lil' rough chicken!   X)
I like the way she holds her own. Trei would love to be out there with her.   He is a soccer nut.   I'm glad she didn't get caught. I'm glad the other team got their penalty, too.   ;)
Let's here it for the giiirrrrls!   :D

She's a rough and tumble girl on the field, and yet a total priss off the field. She's never been one to take any crap, though. That makes me proud, even if I don't always like the way she stands up for herself. ;D

I'm playing soccer, what are you doing?

I think I love your daughter.

And the Chick fil A Story made me snort. Well, not the actual story, but your reaction to it. Gross!

Mer's always happy to have a little more love!

It was pretty gross. Not gross enough to stop me from ordering my lunch, mind you, but still pretty gross. Mostly I was confused as to what the driver was thinking bringing a puking individual to make a fast food run during the lunch rush. People are just dumb sometimes.

Just like, throwing up? That is beyond bizarre, seriously. I. Do not understand this.

But I do really like that Mer is an agressive player. Which sounds weird, I know, but it's better that she has this outlet than something less, um, legal to say the least. Plus is tuckers her out, which is always good with teenagers (ahah! i can say that now I'm 20!).

What did the waiter say when they came back and your glass was just kind of chilling there without a bottom?

From: [identity profile] mugglechump.livejournal.com

Yep, hurling in the drive-thru lane. It was tasty.

Heh. Yes, Mer is always exhausted after soccer.

A woman at a neighboring table called over the hostess, who asked if I'd cut myself and proceeded to try to clean things up. My waiter didn't really say anything. He wasn't very good.
