First off, let me apologize profusely for not having wished Ayla a happy birthday ON her birthday. So, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, AYLA!

And a big happy birthday to Yssa, too!

I went to the doctor last Tuesday to get my head checked out. He thinks I had a mild concussion, but he's sending me to a neurologist and putting me on a heart monitor for a little bit just to be on the safe side. There's no reason to suspect my heart is an issue. He did an EKG and that was fine, and my blood pressure was normal. He's just being cautious, I suppose. I need to get by and pick up the referrals for these things. *sigh* I still have a pretty large bruise on my head, but the swelling has gone down a lot. It only really hurts if I touch it, which I do with ridiculous regularity. Sort of like when you have a sore in your mouth and you can't stop running your tongue over it? Yeah.

I have re-discovered my love of Peanut Butter & Chocolate ice cream from Baskin Robbins. This is bad for my weight and for the whole pre-diabetic diet changes that I need to make. It is so very yummy, though. Especially when served up as a Banana Royale. Mmmm. Banana. >.>

It's review time in my office. Well, the start of it. The review process (i.e. when we get pay increases) doesn't finish until the end of March. I need to fill out my review, update my resume, take my ethics and time-charging training... I think that's it. The events of the last year in my personal life have had a bit of an effect on my professional life, so I don't anticipate a fantasically stellar review. As long as they give me a decent raise, I'm cool with it, though. More money is always a good thing.

Meredith told me recently that she wants to drop out and get her GED. Then she changed her mind two days later. The child just likes to stress me out. She's also decided she doesn't want to play soccer for the high school team because she doesn't want to go back to being a goalie. *bangs head* Whatever. Just pass.

She wants to go to Mexico with her friend Anastasia after her 18th birthday. I don't think it's occurred to her that I'm not going to finance a let's-go-get-tanked-in-another-country trip. Again, whatever.

Typical, goofy Kate/Mer conversation at the mall food court the other day:

Mer: I'm going to get McDonald's. *gets in line*
Me: Ok. I'm going to grab some Chick-Fil-A. I'll meet you after we get our food.
Mer: No, Mom. Wait with me.
Me: Why? I don't want McDonald's. You have money. I'm going to Chick-Fil-A.
Mer: No, Mom. Stay here.
Me: Aren't you nearly 18? You're going to be an adult soon. You don't need me to wait with you.
Mer: No. *shakes head*
Me: Alright, but I don't ever want to hear you tell me "I'm 18, I can do what I want" because clearly you aren't ready for adulthood.
Mer, laughing: Please. You know that's going to happen.
Me: And you know what I'll say.
Mer, puts on 'Mom' voice: As long as you live in my house...
Me: Exactly. Now, I'm going to Chick-Fil-A.
Mer: No. Look, there's no line at Chick-Fil-A.
Me: Which is why I should go over there now.
Mer: No, I need someone to talk to.
Me: There are lots of people to talk to. You just say, "Hello, Fellow McDonald's Line Waiter."
Mer: Oh my God. Just go.
Me, thinking: I win.

In other news that's so old everyone already knows it, there was behind-the-scenes Caliga drama last week. I was not involved, thankfully. I am still a bit sad over the outcome, but that's how it goes sometimes, right?

And, since I'm talking Caliga, I must gush over Michael. He's PERFECT. SO glad my character is dating him. He and Susan could put you into diabetic coma from the sheer amount of sweetness going on. Big M/S love, yo. BIG.

To my friend who recently discovered a health issue, my affection and prayers are with you. To my friend who recently discovered she does not have a health issue - HURRAY! Many hugs to both of you.

Yesterday we celebrated my nephew Maiken's birthday. He's four. And a hard-headed little cutie if ever there was one. Thomas the Tank Engine was the big theme this year. Like a good aunt, I took lots of pictures. I realized later that I hadn't actually taken lots of pictures (or possibly any?) of Maiken, though. No, I took pictures of Grayson. What? Babies are cute. I'll post some later.

Um... I guess that about covers it for now.

Thank, lovey!

Wait... wasn't Mer like 16 yesterday? What happened to 17?

Thank goodness you had a doctor look at you!

Kids are so funny no matter what their age. Mine are so independent sometimes that it shocks me when they want me to do things like wait in line with them ;)

Yeah, it's amazing how indignant kids can get if you try to 'baby' them, but once in awhile they just can't live without mommy. *grins*

Hmm. But would Mer be able to get a soccer scholarship if she did drop out and go for the GED? This is her senior year, isn't it? Hardly worth dropping out for!

Ah, well. Teenagers. As you said, they love to stress their parents. Maybe it's how they make sure parents still care about them. Go figure.

Mer should be a senior, but she isn't. She's only a junior. She's talented enough for an athletic scholarship, but her grades make it unlikely that she'll receive one. Ah well, she gave up on the GED idea pretty quickly.
