One of the stories I follow on FF.net is 'The Painted Past' by Adelaide E. It's an interesting, well written story that she's been working on for going on two years. It's long too, Adelaide's chapters are freaking huge and there are over twenty of them. Some little 16 year old from England reviewed TPP back in January and then started 'writing' her own story in early February. 'Writing' consisted of small portions of her own work, which was nonsensical and had spelling and grammatical errors out the wazoo, followed by long sections of TPP pasted in verbatim. Occassionally she would change a word or two or switch the order of the paragraphs but, I mean, it was SO BLATANT!!! She didn't even change Adelaide's words to the British spellings that you would expect an English teenager to use. Fortunately, a TPP follower came across this thing, reported the abuse to ff.net (who did nothing) and told Adelaide.
A number of people left reviews telling this kid to take it down and apologize to Adelaide for stealing her story. At first she responded with something along the lines of "OMG I WUD NEVER DO THAT BUT I WENT AND RED THE PANITEDP AST AND I CAN SEE HOW U WUD THINK THAT SO IM GOINGT O CHANGE SOME OF IT BUT REALLY U BONE HEADS USE UR BRAINS THERE R LIKE MILLIONSO F POEPLE IN THE WROLD SO SOME POEPLE R GONNA HAVE THES AME IDEAS." I'm not exaggerating.
She was reported to Gumshoe and they posted a review saying that they determined she had stolen most of the story from TPP. She's been added to their list of plagiarists. She's finally taken the story down but still refuses to own up to her actions. Her final words on the subject (copied from her profile page):
"Everyone PLEASE listen against my better will i ahve decided to quit so im srry for like the seven epople who left nice comments to u guys thx and to the over reaction bitches that just wanted to pick a fight with a freaking 16 YEAR OLD BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO! i hope u guy rot of old age and fall to pieces to be eattin by like little smallanimals people can't ever SEE!
AND YES BITCHESU USED U INSTEAD OF USING YOU OK GET OVER IT PICKY MUCH!"
The child has learned nothing from this. I weep for the future. (Okay, not really because I know many very intelligent teenagers but honestly, does no one teach kids about honor anymore?)
