So, James arrived home tonight to find water leaking through the ceiling from the top level of our townhouse. A quick search led him to the culprit. Apparently whoever last used the hallway toity last night clogged it up. Our toilets sometimes forget to stop running, and this is what happened in this instance. Clogged toity overflowed, and kept overflowing all. day. long. Now the seams around the drywall on a good portion of our main level are damp. On one seam the paint has ripped and drips are steadily running from there into the buckets we now have placed below them. The carpet in the hallway upstairs is soaked from where the water came out from under the bathroom door. Since the carpet is Berber, it's difficult for our shopvac to suction the water out.

I think it's a safe bet our security deposit is not coming back to us.

Thankfully, none of our property is damaged.

Not so thankfully, apparently Robbie's sister noticed the water leaking from the ceiling when she came to pick Meredith up today, but didn't think to CALL AND TELL ME. Seriously folks, what the fuck? Meredith claims not to have noticed. She can be oblivious at times, so maybe she didn't, but perhaps she did and just didn't think it was worth the extra two minutes it would take to call me and mention it. Had someone said something, we could have stopped the water from continuing to leak out of the toilet two hours earlier.

That's terrible! I've gone through that before (the day before my wedding!), and it was miserable. The whole place stank for days. I hope it doesn't go that badly for you. But at least we had the excuse that the leak happened overnight, so we slept through most of it happening. It must drive you insane to know that people noticed and just didn't say anything! *Hugs*

It's crazy, the leak has actually turned into a stream. James seems to think that now that no more water is accumulating, that it's taking the path of least resistance and all running through the one break in paint. If it doesn't slow down soon, though, I'm going to get worried.

Disasters and catastrophies are the worst time to point fingers or lay blames. Maybe Meredith noticed and maybe she didn't, but what's done is done, you know?

I'm not really blaming Meredith. She's 16, and tends to be pretty self-involved (like a lot of kids her age), so she very well may not have noticed. Her aunt did, though, and said so while I was talking to Mer on the phone. That she didn't think to give me a heads up is a little frustrating.

Oh, honey, how horrible *hugs you* At least none of your stuff was damaged, but how terribly inconvenient *hugs again*

Thanks, hun. It definitely could've been a lot worse. The ceiling is drying, and hopefully it won't get moldy. The carpet needed to be replaced anyway, so I'm not too worried about that. We've got fans going on both levels so hopefully it will dry out pretty quickly.
