WHINING:

So. I woke up this morning to discover that I've caught Meredith's pink eye. *sigh* This was quickly followed by the realization that I'd sent the eye drops from the last time I had pink eye to NC with Meredith. Probability of drops not returning with her tomorrow: Pretty high.

Tomorrow is the one day out of the fiscal month that I have to go to work. Ergo, cannot go to the doctor until Tuesday if the drops are not returned to me.

Was supposed to see Iron Man today with my mom. Canceled due to allergies and pink eye. Mom was disappointed.

Mom asked if Mer and I want to go away for the long weekend to Cherokee/Asheville/Bryson City (where my great-grandfather was born). Mer's aunt is recently engaged and the engagement party is next weekend. We've both said we'd be there. Mom was disappointed. Told her I'll talk to Mer and see if I can convince her to miss the party. This is unlikely, as we're talking about Mer's favorite aunt, who is much more fun than her mom, grandmother, and uncle with Down Syndrome on a days long trip to the country. Could leave her behind with her dad for the weekend, but Mom would be disappointed. Do we sense a theme here? Could force her to go, but will then have a grumpy teenager spoiling everyone's good time and annoying me with her constant text messaging.

On the plus side, I tagged in on five scenes this morning and then went back to bed for two hours. Have I mentioned that I love Married!Romy/Oliver? I do. They're sickening. It's fun to have a blissfully happy character. And hello? Smuts like whoa. And, of course, Erin is teh awesome, even in Tokyo.

I need to eat. And shower. And clean. And GROCERY SHOP - NO FOOD! And hopefully scene some more. Nap again? Maybe.

So, Mer and I visited over at R&T's. Becky and Manny brought the baby over so James' mom could see her. I didn't get to hold Gracie, but it was good to see them for a little bit. Becky will be coming back to work on the 9th, but only for two weeks. The management won't let her go part time, so she's quitting. :( She doesn't want to have Gracie in daycare if she doesn't have to, and she doesn't. They've been putting her checks into savings and just living off Manny's pay since before Grayson was born, to make sure they could afford for her to quit if it came to that. So now they've got a nice cushion of savings, and they are used to living without her income. More power to them.

We were running late for the showing of Ratatouille I'd planned to go to, so we hung out at Mom's until after dinner, and went to the 7:10 show instead. The movie was cute, and the theatre was not crowded, so that was all good. Oh, dinner was nice, too. Mom made corned beef with potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. Yum. My sole attempt to make corned beef was a dismal failure, so it was a bit of a treat to have that.

Mom also gave me money to get Mer a new mattress and box spring. Mer's old daybed frame wasn't able to make the move, and I didn't realize we'd pitched her box spring until we went to pull it from storage. So, her mattress has been on the floor since we moved. Mer's hoping I'll take her to Ikea to get a new bedframe, too, but that may have to wait a little bit. I'm sure I can get a metal frame tossed in with the mattress set, and that will suffice for the moment. Anyway, the point of this was really that my mom is good to me, despite my occasional griping.

I'm probably going to head to bed soon. I have a headache and I'm tired. All in all this was a good day, though. I'm feeling pretty satisfied. *hugs flist* I hope you each had very nice days, too.

Last night James and I went to see Hot Fuzz. It was pretty darned funny.

Today I have been playing around with Sims 2 stuff. Have finally figured out how to make custom clothing, although I'm not very good at it yet. I did manage to create a D/G t-shirt, a D/G underwear set, and a pretty nifty D/G dress. I'm such a geek. Will post pictures once I figure out where game screenshots are saved.

I've been a whiney, emo mess the last two days. I'd suspect PMS, except I haven't had period in probably five or six months, and I have no reason to think I'll have one anytime soon. Meh. Anyway, that's why I've not been on AIM much. I haven't really wanted to subject anyone to me in my present state of mind. Bitter would be an appropriate adjective to describe me at the mo'. Mean might be another good one, although it's not really intentional. I'm a mass of simmering rage, jealousy, self-doubt, and self-pity and it's really starting to become annoying.

In addition to the personal issues that are responsible for my emo-ness, yesterday I realized I had made a significant error on a piece of work I'd done for one of the division managers. I owned up to it straight away, but the DM was sufficiently irritated that he called my boss. Fortunately, Jeff is really laid back and the error itself was a very simple one, it just happened to have a big effect. So, I'm not worried about fallout from the mistake, it just irritates me when I do something stupid. Especially when it's high-profile.

Anyway, enough of that.

I called Lys today and got a hold of her. She was in Venice for Carnival. I'm glad I got to talk to her, although she was, of course, very busy with the goings-on so it was not perhaps the ideal moment to speak to her for the first time. It made me happy, though. I miss her.

Today I watched 'Snakes on a Plane'. I had no interest in this movie while it was in the theatre, but I'd heard some good things so I decided to check it out. I laughed my butt off. I don't think that's the reaction the producers were going for, but it was hilarious. The premise is ridiculous, really, and Juliana Marg-howeveryouspellherlastname did the worst bit of acting I've ever seen from her. I was rolling, though. Parts of it reminded me so much of 80s horror flicks, with the gratuitous boob shots and sex humor. Someone I've seen around LJ has a great Snakes on a Plane/Harry Potter icon. I must seek it out and steal it (with permission, of course).

Emmie, I mailed out your CD today. I'm sorry we didn't get to talk last night, but I was really out of sorts and wouldn't have been any fun. We'll catch up soon, though, okay?

I'm not sure if I mentioned it on here or not, but about two weeks ago my grandmother had a stroke. It wasn't a major one, but she's been in the hospital and then in a nursing home for rehab ever since. My mom is flying down to St. Pete on Wednesday to help get things ready for when she goes home again, and I'll be driving down in a little less than two weeks. More details on that as things get firmed up, but I plan to at least one stop on the way down to visit with a friend, possibly more if I'm passing through other folks' areas at a time convenient for lunch or chit chat.
