One of the benefits of living alone is that I can cook food that neither James nor Meredith like and enjoy it without listening to the chorus of 'Ewwwwwwwww'. Tonight? A thoroughly artery-clogging meal of breaded chicken livers fried in bacon grease. (I know, I know - Ewwwwwwwwwwwww. I like 'em, sue me.) I rarely make this meal because I'm the only one who eats it, unless my mom's around, and my craving is generally satisfied by far less than the entire tub of chicken livers. On the upside, I don't think there's a less expensive meat. My excuse for making it now is that I'm donating blood tomorrow and I have a tendency towards anemia. Yay iron.

Other unimportant news of the week... I started Monday off by forgetting a meeting had been scheduled for Monday morning at 9:00. Yeah, didn't make that one. Whoops.

Then I had to re-do a financial because Finance decided my fee percentage was four thousandths of a percent too high. Yeah, I love the Finance dept. Anal fucks.

I've got some fun stuff planned for my RP characters, so that's nice. Not ALL my characters, but a few. Makes me happy.

*yawn*

And... I'm tired.

It's snowing, and is expected to continue being snowy and icy for the next couple days. Now to determine if I want to drive to work or just work from home. I brought my laptop home, but there's not that much out there so far.

Decisions, decisions.

Alright, so anyone who has been reading for awhile has heard me talk about the gigantic white board outside the big kitchen at my office.  For newcomers, this thing is literally floor to ceiling, and probably ten feet wide.  Maybe more, I'm bad at judging distances.  It's huge, and it serves no particular purpose beyond being there for our amusement.  Occasionally it will serve as a sign-up for pot lucks or charity events, but by and large it's just there for kicks.  (For all the times I gripe about it, I do love my office.)

Anyhoo, the kitchen fairy (aka the lady who stocks our Flavia coffee and other supplies) made a place on the board for kitchen requests.  As frequently happens when someone tries to use the board for a function purpose, silliness ensued.

White board Conversation Under the Heading 'Kitchen Requests':

* Sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads.
 - Sorry, we can only get goldfish with flashlights.
   * Are they ill-tempered?
     - Very!
        * It's a start.

Alright, I'm willing to concede that there was a lot of build-up for that mildly amusing story, but seriously?  I love the tech guys in my office.  They make things fun.

On that note, I should probably actually GO to work now.  I'm running a little late.

Okay, it's been forever since I've done a real update, so I'll try to catch up on the important moments in the last - what? - two months or so? *shrugs* A long time at any rate. My life is pretty routine anyway, so it won't take that long.

Meredith didn't have to be at school until 9:20 this morning because she didn't have an exam first block and she was only going to be at school until 11:20, so she drove me into work and used the car to get to and from school. But... when I went inside the office I found out that a power grid was down and not expected to be back up until the afternoon, so everyone was going home. Fortunately one of my co-workers lives nearby and offered me a ride.

I could have done productive things around the house, but instead I finished a scene with Sharlene and took a nap. I'm okay with that. I feel better rested than I have in quite some time.

I am still working on my drabble requests, but I hope to have them up this weekend. [livejournal.com profile] elle_blessing posted two that I requested from her today. One is an adorable Katie Bell/Reese Ashley Hogwarts era scene and the other is a wonderfully heated Gwen Jones/Bishop Rasciale drabble. For those of you who aren't aware, Reese and Bishop are OCs from [livejournal.com profile] caliga_rpg. Go read! Even if you don't follow the rpg, the drabbles are awesome. :D

I'm watching Last of the Mohicans right now. Elle and I were discussing the soundtrack the other day. It really is perfect, very moving. I'm ridiculously fond of the younger sister. Her weakness draws me in. Her death scene is so beautiful, which sounds horribly morbid, but it is. It's so simple and powerful and it gets me every time that Mogwa, evil as he is, tries to stop her. I love this movie.

WHINING:

So. I woke up this morning to discover that I've caught Meredith's pink eye. *sigh* This was quickly followed by the realization that I'd sent the eye drops from the last time I had pink eye to NC with Meredith. Probability of drops not returning with her tomorrow: Pretty high.

Tomorrow is the one day out of the fiscal month that I have to go to work. Ergo, cannot go to the doctor until Tuesday if the drops are not returned to me.

Was supposed to see Iron Man today with my mom. Canceled due to allergies and pink eye. Mom was disappointed.

Mom asked if Mer and I want to go away for the long weekend to Cherokee/Asheville/Bryson City (where my great-grandfather was born). Mer's aunt is recently engaged and the engagement party is next weekend. We've both said we'd be there. Mom was disappointed. Told her I'll talk to Mer and see if I can convince her to miss the party. This is unlikely, as we're talking about Mer's favorite aunt, who is much more fun than her mom, grandmother, and uncle with Down Syndrome on a days long trip to the country. Could leave her behind with her dad for the weekend, but Mom would be disappointed. Do we sense a theme here? Could force her to go, but will then have a grumpy teenager spoiling everyone's good time and annoying me with her constant text messaging.

On the plus side, I tagged in on five scenes this morning and then went back to bed for two hours. Have I mentioned that I love Married!Romy/Oliver? I do. They're sickening. It's fun to have a blissfully happy character. And hello? Smuts like whoa. And, of course, Erin is teh awesome, even in Tokyo.

I need to eat. And shower. And clean. And GROCERY SHOP - NO FOOD! And hopefully scene some more. Nap again? Maybe.

( May. 16th, 2008 06:46 pm)
Mer's gone until Monday. Woot! I've been pretty frustrated with her the last couple weeks, so this break is well-timed. She and her dad (and the rest of their crew) are headed down to NC to see Jeff Dunham (?). I think he's a comedian/ventriloquist guy.

I have seven rpg characters. Why do I not have more scenes? Must find plot. *looks under cushions* Who wants to scene with me? Anyone? Anyone? (I actually do have some things lined up, but they're mostly stand-alone scenes. Not much meaty stuff.)

I have seven characters that aren't being scened terribly often as it is, so why am I tempted to bat eyelashes to be allowed a 4th Muove character? Because I want a Muove boy. Three girls and a boy, that's my thing. In Caliga it's Susan, Romy, Sam, and Miles. In Muove I have Susan, Romy, and Emma. No boy. I'm not sure WHICH boy, but I have a VR picked and everything. For a character I can't have, don't need, and have no plan for. Logic - not my strong suit.

I'll be putting up a lyric meme later. Fair warning.

My boss bought lunch for us today. Yay Jeff.

Our new subcontracts rep is a nice-ish guy, but he's so not getting the job done. He's overwhelmed, which may or may not be the reason for his incompetence, but he also has no tact and little professionalism. Very soon the villagers will be coming for him with pitchforks. It won't be pretty. Poor bastard just relocated here from another state, bet he regrets that.

I'm pretty sure there was more I wanted to say, but I can't think of what it was.

Just a quick update, in list form. I haven't done a real update in awhile now, so I'm going back a ways. Forgive me if I'm repeating myself.

Cars:
- Spent ~$700 getting the Sebring fixed a few weeks ago. It had been parked since last September.
- Last weekend Mer run up onto a curve in said Sebring. Popped a tire, screwed up the alignment, and broke off a good chunk of plastic guard underneath the engine.
- Sebring is now parked again.

Mer:
- Is out of school sick for the third day this week.
- Is no longer seeing Derek, and may start dating Vasy again. (She dated him last fall and they went to homecoming together. He's the one with the crazy mother.)
- Told Derek they couldn't be friends right now because when he texted her the sight of his name made her throw up. Suspect this might actually have been the bug she's got rather than disgust at ex-boyfriend.

Work:
- Had a fun cinco de mayo party on Monday. Got a little tipsy, but was ok to drive home by the end of the day. Not sure I accomplished much that afternoon, though.
- I really need to get ready to go there.

RPGs:
- Caliga Ortus has several openings for characters who've puppeteers have left/are leaving the game. Off the top of my head I believe there is: Severus Snape, Pansy Parkinson, Cormac McLaggen, Michael Corner, Padma and Parvati Patil, and Su Li. If you're interested in picking one of these folks up, you can go to www.dracoandginny.com/caliga and get the audition form. Would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the character as he/she has been played thus far first. For that you can go to [livejournal.com profile] caliga_rpg and click on the character's name in 'tags'.
- There is a nifty new community for posting historical, future, and AU Caliga scenes called [livejournal.com profile] caliga_plus. You can also request scenes.
- There's a new HP rpg starting up, Si Muove. If you're interested in joining, go to [livejournal.com profile] si_muove_ooc and send an application for the character you'd like to play.

That's all for now. I'd better get to the office.

Yep. Second spam post of the day.

Do you ever read something random and have a very personal reaction to it? Today I pulled into the parking lot at work and the car in front of me had a license plate that said 'LKYNLUV'. Completely unbidden, my mind supplied, 'Screw you, braggy bitch.'

*cough*

No, I'm not bitter. Why do you ask?.

In other news, I didn't get to work until one o'clock today because this morning I noticed my tire was really low. I don't change tires. I just don't. Make fun if you like, it's still not happening. Becky and I have a long standing tradition of her looking at me with incredulity and saying, "You can't change a tire?" and I respond with, "So what, you can't do your own taxes." It's a priorities thing. And kind of a girl thing. There are boys who can change tires generally within easy distance, I don't need to know how to do it. I don't want to do it. So I don't.

Anyway, this really was not meant to be a rant about my lack of automotive skills. Back on track.

So, I decided that there was enough air in the tire to drive it the mile up the road to the tire shop, since I knew the tires were in pretty bad shape anyway. In the end, I bought two new tires and front brakes, spent ~$350, and watched the last half of a Jimmy Stewart/Audie Murphy movie and the first half of The Searchers while I waited. Gotta love old westerns. An older man who was waiting for his car, too, told me that Jimmy Stewart used to have it included in his contract for westerns that he'd get a certain amount of time to play his accordian during the film. I don't know if that's true or not, but he did play it in this one.

And I don't really want to be at work this afternoon. It's snowing. It's supposed to continue snowing for most of the week, I think. Off and on, of course, but enough that it'll make traffic a bear. Good thing I already have the milk, bread, and eggs at home. Everybody knows you can't get through a snowstorm without french toast fixins. Woohoo! White Death 2008 Part III: Tundra of Terror! (James and I like to make up bad horror film titles for each snowstorm in mocking tribute to the morons who flock to the grocery store like we won't be able to get out of the house for weeks. His favorite is White Death (pick a year) Part (pick a number): Arctic Armageddon, while I prefer Tundra of Terror. Seriously folks, ever heard of a snow plow? And this is Northern Virginia for Pete's sake, not North Dakota! We don't get a lot of snow.)

Also, my lateness to work means I missed out on the Project Control lunch at Famous Dave's. I'm irritated that I missed a free lunch, but beyond that I'm apathetic. I'd really rather be home in bed, or staring at my own computer. Or watching The Notebook, which I rented on [livejournal.com profile] seegrim's recommendation. Stop gasping, I know you've all seen it already.

In Caliga world, I'm excited about the Romy/Terence scene I have to post. Their relationship is unusual, to say the least. Romy's an odd girl. She keeps relationships very compartmentalized. I like her, and other people are starting to, too, which is kind of nice. Now that I have Miles, I really need to figure him out. He's not acting like I think he should. I suppose he'll take awhile to get to know. Susan... Yeah. I'd like to rent her a room in someone else's head for awhile. And one of these days I'll finish my Sam audition and get that turned in.
So, today I'm sitting in a meeting and there are maybe 10 of us in the conference room. One guy is teleconferenced in and the manager who is heading up the meeting (John) is going through the motions, telling the guy on the phone who is there. John starts making a circular motion in front of his face and introducing people with "And I see Billy and Jen..." and so on. The vast majority of the people in the conference room were too young to get the reference, but not me. Oh no. At 35, I rank with the two managers (both of whom are over 50) as part of the 'old' crowd. So while most of the table is staring blankly at John, I start giggling. Loudly.

John looks at Chip (the other manager) and says, "What was the name of that show?" Chip's clueless, along with the table full of youngsters. Me? I blurt out, "ROMPER ROOM!" John makes some comment along the lines of "Right, Romper Room!" and the very pregnant Contracts Rep sitting next to me tell me that I'm sitting at the wrong end of the table, I belong over with the old guys.

This is not long after I had to explain our (50-something) Operation Manager's bad joke about 'Iraq the Casbah' to a group of younger folks in the office. A surprising number of young professionals are completely clueless about The Clash. It's sad, really.

And I am old.

Oh, another fun exchange in the meeting today:

Jessica, one of our Contracts folks is a slightly built young woman going through law school. She is also having substantial dental work done.

Chip: I'm sorry. I zoned out while Jessica was talking.

Sue: It's a lawyer trick.

Chip: She's kind of scary, isn't she?

Jessica: Don't worry, Chip. I intimidate a lot of people. I think it's the braces.

And OH! The woman in charge of stocking the kitchens and ordering vending machine stuffs keeps a paper on the fridge so people can request certain types of drinks. Currently the only request is a particular brand of gin. Hee.

As much as I hate work, my office is pretty awesome.

I am so very ready to go home. SO READY. But no. I'm stuck here for another half hour at the very least, more likely an hour. *bangs head repeatedly*

In other news, Romy *points at icon* is a horrific bitch sometimes. Seriously. She should not deal with other women at all- especially when she's feeling rejected. It's like putting two beta fish in the same bowl.

I have to stop staying up so late. I say that all. the. time. One of these days I'll act on it.

There is pork roast waiting for me at home! Yay!

Um... Yeah, I guess that's it for now. Total spam post.

It's snowing! Potentially up to 8 inches, although I don't think it will come to that. I'm getting ready to leave work, saving things to my laptop to be worked on at home. *is giddy*

Happy birthday, Natasha! I'll do a pretty post from home, but I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten.

And woo! This is a busy, busy Caliga week. Romy's even got a scene without any sex! *gasp* I know, it is shocking.

Alright, I'm off! Happy Snow Day, everyone!

It's positively painful to be at the office today. Very few people are in this week, and those that were here have mostly gone for the day. I'm very tempted to sneak out myself. Seriously, this place is tedious over the holidays.

However, my fellow project controllers surprised me with cake today. I really had no idea what was going on, despite being perfectly aware that my birthday is this weekend. So that was nice. We munched and chatted just enough about work that we could justifiably charge the time.

My boss and one of my co-workers were no here to partake. Jeff left early, and Tiff has been placed on bedrest. She's 19 weeks pregnant and they are hoping to keep her from delivering until week 25 at least, but her pregnancy history is not great. This is her 5th pregnancy, I believe. The child from her only successful pregnancy was born in October of last year. Keep her in your thoughts, please.

I need to go to the grocery and get staples, at least. I'm out of milk and pretty much every other type of drink save Gatorade (blech!) and old beer. Beer's just not good on cereal.

I actually did go to dinner with my dad and my brothers last night. We went to Clyde's. Dad and I had a relatively friendly argument about illegal immigration. He also offered to pay for my divorce lawyer. Fun family moments. Clyde's beef stew is pretty yummy.

Meredith took the hermit crabs to her little cousins last night. Tommy is 7 and Joey is 5, I think. Tommy's scared of them. Joey doesn't mind them as long as Mer doesn't take them completely out of the tank. Hopefully Mer's Aunt Sherri will take proper care of them. I sent all their provisions, and a paper full of instructions. I also re-iterated my threat to Mer's dad that if he shows up with any more living creatures, expecting me to house them, I will remove his bits with a dull knife. He still thinks I'm joking. I'm not.

I had a bit of a scare just before Christmas. I was out shopping and suddenly my check card started getting declined. As I had gotten paid just two days before this occurred, I was a bit perplexed. Fortunately, I had done all the immediately necessary shopping and was only working on the last few things I need to mail out. Anyway, I went to the bank yesterday to ask about it. It seems there is a daily limit to how much you can charge on the debit card. I don't think I reached the amount they told me, but the balance they showed available was pretty close to what I expected to be in the account, so I guess all is right with the world again. I'm glad it didn't screw up my Christmas shopping too badly.

Yesterday I also went to the DMV for two flippin' hours. I needed to:

- renew my license
- change my address
- provide proof of insurance
- change the address on my registration for the Sebring
- register the Buick
- update my voting registration (Yes, we do that at the DMV here. Motor voter.)

I managed all of it except the parts to do with the car registrations. I couldn't change the address for the Sebring because James' name is first on the title. So he has to go in and change it to my address, even though I'm the one using (and paying for) that car. Or I can try to get his name taken off, but then I'd have to re-do the loan paperwork and blahblahblah. Too much hassle.

In order to register the Buick, which is currently titled in Florida in both of my grandparents' names, I have to bring in both of their death certificates and my mom's paperwork stating she is the executor of the estate and has authority to sign the title over to me. The Florida registration is good until February, so that gives me a little time to gather all that crap. Ah, the DMV. Second only to the IRS for most hated government office.

Well, that's all the stuff I can think to gripe about at the moment. Is it time to go home yet?

It just occurred to me that I have to get all my quarterly updates done by Wednesday because no one will be around to approve them on Thursday and Friday. It's not that I was unaware of the upcoming holiday, I just hadn't fully comprehended the effect it had on my deadlines. Shit.

Corner Gas is a cute show. I was giggling my butt off tonight. If only that was a real weight loss solution.

I've caught Meredith's cold. Now it's too late to take Nyquil, so I'll be hacking all night. Hurrah. Another excellent example of my ability to plan effectively.

Meredith's hermit crabs are boring. Shocker. She's certain that her friend Justin's hermit crabs were more exciting. I'm sure they were, given that Meredith hung out with Justin when she was about seven. *bangs head*

I have now putzed around until 1:00. I'm going to bed.
I am tired. I'd love to curl up in bed and snooze for a bit.

I am also cold. The curling up in bed thing would solve that problem.

I should really get to work. Getting in a hot shower would solve the cold problem and might wake me up some.

The sooner I go to work, the sooner I get to come home from work.

But my bed looks so cozy!

I get paid to be at work.

Bah. Work always wins. Stupid money.

Meredith's official soccer season is over. They ended up in 5th place in the division. Final record 4-3-2; 18 goals scored, 11 goals given up. We have a one day tourney in Delaware on the Sunday after Thanksgiving because it's a great idea to drive hours north in late fall to stand outside all day so you can drive hours back home so you don't miss school/work the next day. *shakes head* My plan for Thanksgiving weekend - I get to be really freakin' cold and tired. Hot dog! Then around the new year they'll start their indoor games. Those are fun - very fast paced, no out-of-bounds, and warm.

I have stromboli in the oven. I <3 stromboli. I don't allow myself to eat it very often, though, because it is god awful fattening. This particular stromboli confuses me a little. At least the packaging does. There are very clear directions for both convection and microwave ovens. The microwave directions state plainly that you should take off the foil wrapping before you cook the stromboli. That makes perfect sense in theory, but there isn't actually any foil wrapping on the stromboli. Bizarre.

I brought work home tonight and there is no way I can allow myself to ignore it because I have a meeting at 10:00 tomorrow morning in which I will need to have this spend plan in good order. Bah. Really not into that tonight. Would much rather read a new chapter of 3K. Of course, there isn't currently a new chapter of 3K to read, but that's not really the point.

The mail I've been intending to send out will hopefully make it to the Post Office by next weekend. My friend Cynthia's daughter is two months old, I should probably get her gift down there. Not to mention some things I've promised folks around here.

Which reminds me, I need a new color printer cartridge. A trip to Walmart is on the list for tomorrow anyway, so I'll pick one up then. Must remember to return the car battery I thought I needed, but didn't.

Clean laundry is taking over my bed. That should probably be folded before the cats get too cozy on it and it loses the 'clean' and just becomes laundry again.

That's all for now.
I am already tired of political commercials, and there is still a year to go before the next presidential election. The AARP commercials are playing everywhere, all the time. *bangs head* It's running neck and neck with the 'Truth' anti-smoking commercials (that are put out by tobacco companies) for Most Annoying Advertisement Ever.

Despite the irritating commercials, I'm really giggly tonight. It's a product of the D/Gness that is now officially going on in [livejournal.com profile] caliga_rpg. Naked Draco makes me happy. Taunty Ginny makes me happy. Whatever will I do when the fandom dies out? D/G forever!

There is the slightest chance that I'm just giggly because at this time last night it was midnight and I'm really tired. That sentence sounds like it doesn't make sense, but it really does.

Does anybody else watch Next Iron Chef? Who are you rooting for? I think Chef Simon will win, but I'm pulling for Chef Besh. Gotta love the southern boy.

Ok, the guy on Ace of Cakes is located in Baltimore, so I could totally order a cake from him. His cakes are incredibly cool. There are two problems with this. One - His cakes start at $500. I don't have any occasion that necessitates that kind of cake expense. I don't even think I spent that much for my wedding cake. Two - I hate fondant. To do the kinds of kick ass cake designs he does, you really need to use fondant. That is such a bummer.

Tomorrow is my busy accrual day at work. I have those every four weeks. I hope the subcontractors get their stuff to me on time. I'm not trying to be there all night.

... I can access LJ from work again. No telling how long it will last, but for now - HUZZAH!

So now I'm posting just because I can.

I cooked dinner last night! This is a rare event. Meredith didn't eat any, because Meredith is Meredith. Anyway, I made breaded turkey cutlets and rotini. It was lovely, though not pretty. My cooking skills are not great and even when I make something tasty, it rarely looks nice. I'm brought some of the leftovers for lunch. I cook AND I'm thrifty! Woo!

An inordinate number of my flisters are sick or in worrisome situations. Prayers for everyone! I'm handing 'em out like Watchtower pamphlets. (A Jehovah's Witness joke, if you are confused.)

Do you ever get those crazy urges to start dancing? I'm having one now. I want to pull out my iPod and jam. Unfortunately I've got no rhythym at all, so that combined with the fact that I'm at work makes this an inappropriate desire to give in to. Bah.

That stupid Lucius/Ginny plot bunny won't leave me alone. It keeps poking me and telling me what happens next. And it's a naughty little bunny. Lest you worry about my loyalty to Ginny and the other Malfoy male, Draco is having his say in this untold story, too. Quite a rivalry between father and son, let me tell you! While it's nice to have some idea where a story is going, I really don't need another work in progress. Why couldn't it be a good bunny and stay a drabble?

I'd better run. Hope you're all having a good day.
